The first exam:

The first exam will be on Thursday, September 8, 2016.

On it, you will be required to do the following, for three different systems of linear equations:

1. Write down the augmented matrix for the system of equations. 
2. Use Gaussian elimination with back substitution to transform the system of equations into reduced row echelon form. 
3. Interpret the reduced row echelon form in terms of the solution set to the system of equations.  That is,
   
   • If there are no solutions, state so. 
   • If there is a unique solution, give it. 
   • If there is a parametrized solution set, write it down.

You will need to show all of your work, and, in particular, each step of the Gaussian elimination process and back substitution, to receive full credit.
