- Times and places for the
course and final exam: The course meets Tuesday and Thursday
11:00AM to 12:15PM in MDD (Maxim D. Doucet) Room 209. The final
exam will be on Thursday, May 9, 2:00PM to4:30PM.
- Text: Elementary Linear Algebra, eleventh edition,
by Anton and Rorres, with Wiley Plus.
A copy of the online text and other resources is also available without
charge to those who have bought new copies of the text, through Wiley
Plus, and for a fee to others. To access the online text,
tutorials, and other resources, go to http://edugen.wiley.com/.
- Prerequisite: Math. 250 or Math. 270, MATH 272 or MATH 251 with grade
of C or better.
- A highly recommended
resource: MATLAB
(MATrix LABoratory) is based on linear algebra computations.
Familiarity with it is bound to help you in this course, in other
engineering courses, and likely also in post-graduate research or
employment. MATLAB is installed in our engineering labs, and also
is installed in the Mathematics Department MDD 212 classroom lab.
(Check for open hours for MDD 212.) Students can buy MATLAB for
their studies at a much reduced cost; furthermore, GNU Octave is a free
package whose syntax is compatible with MATLAB, and which has many of
the functions present in Matlab. In particular, Octave version 4
and above has syntax and a user interface very similar to Matlab, and is
an option for students working at home and on their personal machines.
