Mathematics 656 Course Description
Advanced Topics in Numerical Analysis, Spring, 2002
This is the second semester of an advanced topics course, for students
seeking a more in-depth exposure and practice in state-of-the-art techniques
and research topics. (See http://interval.louisiana.edu/courses/655/655-fall-2001-desc.html
for a description of the first semester.)
Preliminary goals this semester include
-
Completion of projects begun last semester, including submission of papers
on applications.
-
A study of methods of solution validation for infinite-dimensional problems,
including operator equations.
-
Mathematical modelling, with an emphasis on formulation of problems in
ways to facilitate validation of numerical solutions.
-
Solution of particular practical problems.
See the course
outline periodically for details.
