Mathematics 555, Fall, 2013 Course Prerequisites
The formal requirement is Math. 455 (numerical analysis, first semester) or permission of the instructor
and graduate coordinator. The course covers advanced
treatment of numerical methods, analysis of techniques and
approximation theory using some basic real and functional analysis, and
some study of algorithms and programming (currently focusing on using
Matlab). Thus, the numerical methods course (Math. 455 or
equivalent), some real analysis, and some programming experience are
helpful. However, if you are missing one of these three subjects
but are proficient in the others, you may be able to focus on what you
hadn't seen during the course and do well. If you have any doubts
or questions, contact
me (Ralph Baker Kearfott).
