Text Books for Math. 555

  1. The primary text will be the manuscript, Introduction to Numerical Analysis by Arnold Neumaier. Although the book hasn't appeared yet, the manuscript we have is in press;  I have received explicit permission from the publisher to use the manuscript for our course. Unless otherwise listed, assignments will be from this text.
  2. A reference will be Rigorous Global Search: Continuous Problems, R. Baker Kearfott, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, Netherlands, 1996. A copy will be on reserve in Dupre' Library.
  3. W. Brainerd, C. Goldberg, and J. Adams, Programmer's Guide to Fortran 90, Third Edition, Springer Verlag, 1995. This text is recommended, as much of the supplementary material in the course uses Fortran 90. Copies have been ordered at Follett's, and the book can also be ordered online from  amazon.comclick here for more information.

  4. Note: You will not be required to use Fortran 90 for programming assignments (C++ is also an option), but Fortran is highly recommended.
