This meeting will be held in the Best Western Hotel Acadiana. Click here for general information about the hotel and for on-line reservations. Thirty rooms are reserved from Sunday, February 15 through Friday, February 20 in the name of "American National Standards Institute, Fortran Programming Workshop." Reservations are to be made individually, and rooms not reserved by February 2, 1998 will be released. The rate is $65 total for a single, double, triple, or quad-occupied room . (Spouses are at no extra cost.) J3 gets a free parlor room if 20 or more rooms are occupied.
As suggested, I will arrange an outing to Mulate's Restaurant on Tuesday or Wednesday evening, although I could also arrange other outings, such as a swamp tour or a visit to the Jefferson Island botanical gardens or Avery Island (another botanical garden and site of the Tabasco Sauce bottling plant). Please email me (rbk@louisiana.edu) soon with alternate suggestions.
Mardi Gras 1998 will be on February 24, 1998, although there will be parades the previous week in New Orleans (125 miles from Lafayette on 70 mph freeway) and on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21 in Lafayette, in the middle of Cajun Country.
Continental, American, Delta, and Northwest airlines fly into Lafayette. Continental provides some direct jet service, while the others provide connecting turboprop flights to and from Houston, Dallas, and Memphis. It is also possible to fly into Baton Rouge, a 50 mile drive by freeway across the Atchafalaya Basin, although recently connections directly into Lafayette have been equally good or better. New Orleans is a 125 mile drive by freeway.
There is a hotel shuttle between the airport and the hotel. Please call the hotel for arrangements.
